Bride 42"x72" Oil on steel panel with wood, Sculpey and magnets for the sculptures. 2000
Bride is the first of a short series of interactive paintings. The small sculptures are attached to the panel using only magnets and can therefore be moved and placed anywhere on the panel surface. The idea here was that the painting was alive because it was always in a state of becoming; the sculptures' mobility never allowing the piece so be static. For a more thorough discussion of the ideas that went into this painting, please read the Bride statement. Another interesting side project was the creation of a virtual version of the painting as a flash interactive program. This led me to create a series of computer illustrations to represent all the sculpted 'organs' for the flash animation. The entire virtual Bride was made available as a CD-rom. Below you will find thumbnails to all of the other work relating to Bride.

Virtual Bride Flash animated movie. 2000
Click the thumbnail to the left to open Virtual Bride. When first created, this animation ran much slower on computers of the time and so now, much of the sound synching and animations appear too fast. One casualty is the readability of the game's instructions so here they are:

"Bride is a digital simulation of an interactive painting/sculpture. In it's analog form, magnetic sculptures are arranged and recomposed freely. This Flash movie works in much the same way. Here, the pieces are dragged and dropped using the mouse. To drag the object, click on the object and hold the mouse button down. Release the button to place the sculpture in its new location. To view the cutaway sections, simply rollover the mouse to expose an interior view. Click and reclicking the section will toggle between exposing and hiding the cutaway. To skip this introduction, please click on the button in the bottom right hand corner. You an exit th eprgram at any time by clicking the stop button in the bottom right hand corner of the main window. Thank you.

Joe Infurnari, 2000."

Bride Sticker Kit
Below are three thumbnails that link to images that can be used to make a sticker kit based on the Bride project. Printing two sheets on adhesive paper allows you to cut out the organs and cutaways and place them on the figure wherever you like! Simply click each thumbnail and save the larger image file. Follow the instructions in each file to build your very own sticker kit. For a high resolution sticker kit click here.

Other Bride-related Illustrations
Here are some other odds and ends I created to relate to the Bride piece. The first is a fusion of the organs into a typewriter/periodic table of elements structure. The second is a visual representation of some of my ideas and source materials. That final image is simply an illustration of Bride. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.
