Working away from home on some creature designs. So far, I can't help but think these are circling a strange human/mosquito cross breeding. Stay tooned to this station for more behind the scenes insights in the coming weeks.
Wow! I am so happy and honored to be a special guest at this year's Emerald City Comic Con. This is the first time that's ever happened so it's all a big thrill for me. In fact, I've been so swept up in all the excitement that I created banners for Josh and I for our booth (F12). The above is my banner. and below is Josh's. Here's all the relevant details:
Emerald City Comicon: March 28th-30th, 2014. Oni Press Booth 412, The BUNKER's Joshua Hale Fialkov and Joe Infurnari Booth F12
Stay tuned as I'll be posting signing schedules as soon as they're available. Thanks!
When setting out to color a cover for The BUNKER, the art starts out like the image above. The art is exported into multiple files that are assembled into layered image including the logo/ bar code and branding template (carried over from issue #1). Below is the final colored cover for March's issue of The BUNKER(#2). All the template layers from the original file are removed with paper texture, color and rendering added in Photoshop. The final art is exported to Illustrator where the logos are colored and the issue number updated. That's all for now but stay toned as I'll be posting more process pics for upcoming issues.
March 3rd is your last day to preorder THE BUNKER #2. Issue #1 sold out despite high retailer reorders. To be absolutely sure to get your copy of #2, please pre-order your copy(s) with your local comics shop. To find a store near you, please visit: www.comicshoplocator.com Diamond Code: JAN141259
It may be old news now but it's official, The BUNKER #1 by Joshua Hale Fialkov and myself has sold out. Oni Press quickly responded with this press release:
Portland, OR (February 13, 2013) – Oni Press is thrilled to announce that the entire first printing of Joshua Hale Fialkov and Joe Infurnari’s critically-acclaimed THE BUNKER #1 has sold out at the distributor level!
“WOW! It’s wonderful that our little-story-that-could continues to find new readers and fans. We’re going to need a bigger BUNKER!,” said Infurnari.
“The overwhelming response to the first issue warms my heart,” continued Fialkov. “Joe and I have built something that we love, and Oni has helped us get it into a lot of new hands. We’re so grateful for all of our readers’ and retailers’ love and support.
A second printing of the creator-owned sci-fi phenomenon—featuring a new cover by Infurnari (pictured)—is expected on March 12th, so fans and retailers that missed it the first time can hop aboard before issue #2 hits stands on March 26th.

Nobody noticed that the press release was dated a year ago. Clearly there are time fluctuations occurring surrounding this project beyond whatever is happening in the story. I'll be keeping my eye on this. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the 2nd printing cover (seen above).
That's all for now. Thank you so much for the outpouring of enthusiasm and love for this book. We've only just begun but I have insider knowledge that things only get better from here.

In his piece, 'The BUNKER' Offers a Glimpse of the Future of Comics, Graeme McMillan writes about The BUNKER as another example (following Brian K. Vaughan's and Marcos Martin's Private Eye) of self publishing serialized content online.
with less of a barrier for entry as print, digital could offer comic creators a chance to control their fortunes (figuratively and literally) in a way that they've never enjoyed before.
He also had this to say about the story:
I can recommend it to those who enjoyed such television shows as Lost or such comics as Morning Glories

Here's the complete first chapter of the project most likely to sink my already floundering career. If this story were a chimichanga (and who doesn't consider their work in terms of Mexican cuisine) it would have to be a heaping dollop of WRONG, wrapped and deep-fried in WRONG, and served in a dirty bed pan with melted Fromunda cheese. Sorry, the guac is extra. This comic was first featured at Trip City. It's your best destination for free quality music, videos, prose, comics and podcasts.
